I got a lot of great feedback last week on my first Friday Faves post! Thanks everyone! This will be a fun series to continue. I may even have a few guest posts in the works! Here goes week #2!
FRIDAY FAVES || FEBRUARY 9, 2018
Everyone has his or her favorite way to make coffee. For years my go-to was a simple pot. Then when we got married it was a Keurig (when those were all the rage). We got rid of our Keurig a while back (I got kind of grossed out by it and it wasn't working well) and I wanted to replace it with a fancier coffee contraption. I heard a lot of good things about the Aeropress and decided to try it. I've been using it for a year and a half and have not turned back! We did buy a really nice 12-cup Cuisinart pot for when we have guests over, but I use Aeropress for my daily morning cup. And this week, I've been fixing myself an extra cup in the afternoon (I've been so tired)! Taking the extra time to make the perfect cup is so worth it to me. I got this kettle for Christmas and it's been a great addition to my coffee making process as well!
I have been using this product for about a year and a half and it has CHANGED my skin routine in the most amazing way! Because I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, I have always steered clear of most face masks because I was nervous they would wreck my face. But this one is 100% natural bentonite clay (you can read more about the benefits here). It is such an amazing mask! I try to use it once a week. It does a great job at drawing out impurities and reducing discoloration.
YNAB (You Need a Budget)
We have tried a couple other budgeting systems in the past (Mint + Every Dollar) but we felt frustrated with them pretty quickly. After moving to Utah, it took us a while to get into a rhythm with budgeting because we had two residence changes and two job changes in one year's time. And the cost of living is so much higher here! We finally decided on YNAB at the end of last year. I will be honest - it took a couple weeks to get used to. It's a totally different way of budgeting than that other two systems. Simply put - you assign every dollar a job ON every pay day. For us, that's every two weeks, so it is different than monthly budgeting. But I find that budgeting every two weeks is WAY easier than budgeting a month at a time. We are better at forecasting our needs two weeks at a time and have been MUCH more successful at staying on budget. YNAB is not free - but we feel that the yearly fee is totally worth it! For us - it has already paid for itself in the money we have not spent!
This app provides a fun way to change up your Instagram stories! I am a huge Instagram fan (man it's loads of fun logging life there) and I've recently started adding some flare to my stories using this app. It's free and easy to use! Go check it out!
Reading Books in Bed
This is not an actual "thing" but it's definitely one of my favorites from the week. My daughter was officially transitioned into a twin bed last month and I love it for many reasons. The best reason is that it's way more comfortable! But second to that is the ability for us to crawl in bed WITH her! She is in a very snuggly stage (more so than when she was a baby)! My new favorite thing to do is to wake her up from her nap (yes, I have to wake her these days so she actually falls asleep at night) and snuggle in her bed with a stack of books! IT'S THE BEST. It's fun for her and fun for me. It breaks up my afternoon of work and gives us meaningful time together. I always end up super sleepy after snuggling up with her! We now visit the big kid section of the library (no more board books)! Kya is at the age where she loves to sit and listen to longer stories. She has always had an amazing attention span so reading books is where it's at for her right now!
